More About Val
My career has taken me from the middle school classroom to the district office, across the country as a PD facilitator, back to the classroom to earn my EdD, and most recently into the world of educational research and development.
Everything I do is driven by the inquiry: How can professional learning support educator activists as they work for educational, racial, and social justice in their communities?
A few other facts about me:
I am the co-author of the CARE Antiracist Framework, a guide for educators on their antiracist journey.
I’m the founder of #ClearTheAir, an online community of educators engaging in conversations about race, racism, and school.
I have held leadership positions at the University of Florida College of Education, Learning for Justice, the Center for Antiracist Education at Stand for Children, and most recently at the Carnegie Foundation.
“I am a Black woman who was nurtured by a family of educators, and more specifically, Black educator activists. Through their words and actions, my family emphasized civic engagement and action as a fundamental right, responsibility, and method of seeking justice and change.”
